Best Alternatives to Yoast SEO in 2026

Looking for a Yoast SEO alternative? Compare free features, renewal prices and the safety of importing your existing SEO settings before switching. A less expensive plugin is not automatically a better choice if it creates extra migration work.

Switch to the wrong plugin, though, and you trade that bill for a messy migration or a price that doubles at renewal.

We compared six Yoast SEO alternatives on free features, first-year and renewal prices, and Yoast importers, using each vendor’s own pages.

One of them costs less than half of Premium and renews at the same price.

The best Yoast SEO alternatives at a glance

Here’s the short version, based on pricing and docs checked in October 2026.

  • Best overall: Rank Math. Its free plugin has redirects and up to five focus keywords per post, both Premium-only on Yoast.
  • Cheapest paid upgrade: SEOPress PRO, at $49 a year for one site or $149 for unlimited sites, with no renewal jump.
  • Closest to Yoast’s hand-holding: All in One SEO (AIOSEO), if a renewal that doubles after year one doesn’t bother you.
  • Set it and forget it: Slim SEO, which configures itself and still includes free redirects.

How we picked: We read each plugin’s pricing page, Yoast migration docs and WordPress.org listing, all checked in October 2026. We didn’t test the plugins side by side for this update, so this is a research-based comparison. One first-hand note: this site runs Rank Math’s free version.

We dropped WP Meta SEO, whose free plugin has been closed on WordPress.org since June 2026, and left out SureRank, which only launched in 2025. How we review software

Why do people look for a Yoast SEO alternative?

Mostly money and paywalls. Yoast prices Premium per site and keeps several everyday tools out of its free plugin.

Yoast SEO Premium costs $118.80 a year per site before VAT, and one subscription covers one site. Three sites cost $356.40 a year, since bulk discounts only start at five subscriptions.

The price has also gone up. Since July 2025, Premium has cost $118.80 instead of $99. That’s when Yoast folded its Local, News and Video SEO add-ons into it, per Yoast’s pricing announcement.

Yoast’s own free vs Premium comparison lists these as Premium-only:

  • More than one focus keyphrase per page (Premium allows up to five)
  • A redirect manager, so renamed or deleted pages don’t turn into 404 errors
  • Internal linking suggestions as you write
  • Social previews for Facebook and X
  • Support beyond the help center

Need any of those? Several alternatives to Yoast SEO include some of them for free, and that’s where switching starts to pay.

Fair to Yoast: the free plugin still covers real-time SEO and readability analysis, XML sitemaps and schema. If you never miss the items above, staying put costs you nothing.

How do the alternatives compare on price?

Here’s each bill, with Yoast as the baseline. Which number matters most? The renewal column, because two of these plugins discount the first year.

Prices in USD before tax, checked October 2026 on each vendor’s pricing page. Rank Math’s page showed the same figures in euros from our location, so confirm the currency at checkout.

Do the math for several sites and the gap gets wide. Five sites on Yoast Premium cost $564.30 a year after its 5% bulk discount. SEOPress covers five sites for $59, and Rank Math PRO covers every site you own for $107.88 at renewal.

The six Yoast SEO alternatives in 2026, one by one

Rank Math: Premium-style tools in the free plugin

Rank Math homepage with a preview of the plugin dashboard, showing the Setup Wizard and Import and Export tabs used to migrate from Yoast

Rank Math is the easiest move for most Yoast users, and it’s what this site runs, on the free plan. Our Rank Math review covers the plugin in depth.

  • Free redirects and keywords: a redirect manager and up to five focus keywords per post, both Premium-only on Yoast, plus a 404 monitor.
  • Yoast import: the setup wizard imports Yoast’s data, and a converter turns Yoast’s FAQ and How-to blocks into Rank Math blocks.
  • PRO extras: rank tracking for 500 keywords, unlimited focus keywords, CSV redirect import and a 15-day trial of Rank Math’s AI tools.

Price: free, or PRO at $7.99 a month billed yearly ($95.88 the first year). It renews at $8.99 a month ($107.88 a year) and covers unlimited sites you own. Client sites need Business, from $24.99 a month billed yearly. See Rank Math’s pricing page.

Best for: Yoast free users who want redirects and extra keywords for free, and owners of several sites.

Skip it if: you build client sites on a budget. PRO’s license excludes them, and Business renews at $335.88 a year.

All in One SEO: hand-holding with a year-two price jump

AIOSEO homepage listing its Local SEO, WooCommerce SEO, SEO Optimizer, Smart Sitemaps and Rich Snippets modules

AIOSEO has been on WordPress.org since 2007, longer than any other plugin here. Its setup wizard and on-page checks are also the closest match to Yoast’s guided style.

Its importer pulls titles, descriptions, schema settings and social meta from Yoast, which only needs to be installed, not active. Here’s the catch: AIOSEO’s prices are first-year deals, and all renewals are at full price.

  • AI credits: 10,000 on Basic, though the AI Writing Assistant needs a separate paid SEOBoost subscription.
  • Redirects cost more: the full redirect manager and the internal Link Assistant start on the Pro plan.
  • Page builders: SEO editing inside Elementor, Divi, Avada and WPBakery.

Price: Basic is $49.50 for the first year on one site, then $99 a year. Pro, with redirects and the Link Assistant for 10 sites, is $199.50, then $399. Refunds run for 14 days. See AIOSEO’s pricing page.

Best for: beginners on one site who want step-by-step guidance and will budget for year two.

Skip it if: redirects are why you’re leaving Yoast. Here they renew at $399 a year, while Rank Math and Slim SEO include them free.

SEOPress: the cheapest paid upgrade

SEOPress homepage with a button for the paid plugin and a link to try the free version

SEOPress gives free users two things Yoast charges for: unlimited target keywords in its content analysis, and social previews. PRO is the cheapest paid plan here, and it renews at the same price.

Its free importer brings over Yoast’s post and term metadata, focus keywords, primary categories and global settings, and SEOPress says redirects come across too.

  • Free: XML and HTML sitemaps, plus SEO editing inside Elementor, Divi and other builders.
  • PRO: redirects and 404 monitoring, custom schemas, breadcrumbs, local and WooCommerce SEO, news and video sitemaps.
  • Add-ons: AI credits from $19 a month, and Insights rank tracking at $99 a year per site.

Price: PRO is $49 a year for one site, $59 for five and $149 for unlimited sites, before VAT, renewing at the same price. Refunds run for 14 days. See SEOPress’s pricing page.

Best for: anyone paying for Yoast Premium on several sites.

Skip it if: you want custom schema and breadcrumbs for free. Both need PRO.

The SEO Framework: automation with almost no settings

The SEO Framework homepage with a Download Installer button for its free WordPress plugin

The SEO Framework (TSF) fills in titles, descriptions, canonical tags and structured data automatically, with no ads or upsell nags in the dashboard.

One flag: TSF was last updated on WordPress.org in December 2025. It’s marked as tested only up to WordPress 6.9, while WordPress itself is on 7.1. Its GitHub repository was still being updated in October 2026, so check for a new release before you commit.

  • Free: automatic titles, descriptions, Open Graph tags and schema, plus a per-page 301 redirect field.
  • Migration: the free Transport extension moves titles, descriptions, robots directives, canonicals and social data from Yoast, Rank Math and SEOPress, but not your plugin settings.
  • Paid extensions: focus keyword analysis, local business data and article schema.

Price: free. Pro is $7 a month billed yearly ($84) for every extension on two sites. Business ($17 a month) covers 20 sites, and Agency ($27 a month) covers 200. Refunds are open for 30 days. See TSF’s pricing page.

Best for: developers and owners who want correct metadata without a score to chase.

Skip it if: you rely on Yoast’s keyphrase checks, since keyword analysis is a paid extension here.

Slim SEO: free redirects and almost nothing to configure

Slim SEO configures itself: meta tags, schema, breadcrumbs and sitemaps work with almost no settings.

It’s made by the team behind Meta Box, one of the plugins in our custom field plugins roundup. Pro’s schema builder can also pull values from custom fields.

  • Free redirects: redirect rules, a 404 monitor and automatic redirects when a slug changes, none of which Yoast free offers.
  • Yoast migration: copies meta titles and descriptions, but Yoast must stay active while it runs.
  • AI drafting: titles and descriptions written with your own OpenAI, Gemini, Claude or OpenRouter API key.
  • Pro: a visual schema builder, link suggestions, broken-link repair, Search Console reports and a writing assistant.

Price: Pro is $59 a year for one site, $119 for 10 and $179 for unlimited sites, each renewing at the same price. Unlimited excludes enterprises, hosts, SaaS firms and maintenance agencies. Refunds run for 14 days. See Slim SEO Pro’s pricing.

Best for: small sites that want a free Yoast alternative with redirects built in.

Skip it if: you want on-page content checks while you write, which need Pro.

Squirrly SEO: coaching with monthly limits

Squirrly SEO homepage describing its WordPress plugin and SaaS, with a link to try the free version

Squirrly is still maintained, but it has changed. Its WordPress.org listing is now called GEO Plugin by Squirrly SEO, and it pitches AI answer engines as much as Google.

The plugin connects to a free Squirrly cloud account for audits, keyword research and rank tracking, and every plan has monthly limits.

  • Free: one site, one focus page and five AI keyword researches a month.
  • PRO: five sites, 25 focus pages and 50 keyword researches a month, with rankings from Search Console averages.
  • Import: one-click import from Yoast and most other big SEO plugins.

Price: PRO lists at $19.99 a month paid annually ($239.88 a year), renewing at the same price. The same page’s FAQ quotes $9.99 to start on monthly billing, so confirm the figure at checkout. See Squirrly’s pricing page.

Best for: beginners who want a task list that says what to fix next.

Skip it if: you only need metadata and sitemaps. For real keyword research, a dedicated tool does more, as our Semrush review shows.

Should you switch at all?

Only if Yoast costs you money or lacks something you’d use every week. Otherwise, a migration is work with little payoff.

When staying on Yoast is the better call

  • You’re on Yoast free and only use its analysis, sitemaps and schema. Switching would mostly swap one free toolset for another.
  • You run one site and use Premium’s 24/7 support or its Local, News and Video SEO plugins.
  • Your writers use Yoast’s Google Docs add-on. Premium includes one seat, and extra seats are $5 a month each.
  • You run WooCommerce and want one vendor. Yoast WooCommerce SEO is $178.80 a year, Premium included.

Switching pays when you buy Premium for two or more sites, want free redirects, or keep hitting the one-keyphrase limit.

A safe switch in six steps

  1. Back up the site, database included.
  2. Export your Yoast Premium redirects as a CSV file, if you use them.
  3. Install the new plugin and run its Yoast importer before deactivating Yoast.
  4. Spot-check key pages in the page source: title, description, canonical and robots tags.
  5. Deactivate Yoast. Rank Math and AIOSEO both warn against running two SEO plugins.
  6. Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console, since its address may differ.

No importer fixes weak content, because a plugin manages metadata, not page quality. If your pages need work, see our Surfer SEO review and our guide to the Surfer Content Editor.

Which alternative should you choose?

Find your situation, then the plugin that fits it.

  • One site, and free tools are enough: Rank Math free.
  • Yoast Premium on several sites you own: Rank Math PRO, at $107.88 a year after year one for all of them.
  • Many sites on a tight budget: SEOPress PRO, at $149 a year for unlimited sites.
  • A beginner who wants a checklist: AIOSEO Basic, with $99 set aside for year two.
  • No settings at all: Slim SEO, or TSF if you can wait for its next release.
  • Building with Elementor: Rank Math, AIOSEO and SEOPress all edit SEO inside page builders. Our Elementor addons roundup covers the rest of the stack.
  • Tempted by AI-written titles: Yoast Premium, AIOSEO, SEOPress and Slim SEO all offer them, so read why we’re cautious about AI content first.
  • Need keyword ideas: no SEO plugin replaces research. Start with our guide to keyword research in Surfer.

Before you trust a comparison chart: several pages ranking for this search come from the plugin makers themselves. Rank Math, SEOPress and AIOSEO each publish a Yoast comparison, and Yoast publishes replies, so read them as sales pages.

Yoast SEO alternatives FAQs

Is Rank Math better than Yoast?

On free features, yes: Rank Math adds redirects, a 404 monitor and up to five focus keywords per post. Yoast’s strengths are readability analysis in 25+ languages and 24/7 support for Premium buyers. Neither plugin ranks a page by itself, because content and links still do that work.

Will switching from Yoast hurt rankings?

Not if the move is clean. Search engines only see what the plugin prints: titles, descriptions, canonicals, robots tags, schema and redirects. If those match before and after, nothing changes. The risk is noindex settings or redirects that don’t transfer, so check both on your key pages.

Can you keep Yoast installed while trying another plugin?

Briefly. Rank Math and AIOSEO both advise against running two SEO plugins at once, since each prints its own titles, canonicals and schema. Some importers need Yoast around: AIOSEO only needs it installed, while Slim SEO needs it active until the migration finishes.

Does one Yoast SEO Premium subscription cover several sites?

No. One subscription covers one site or domain. Yoast applies bulk discounts automatically, from 5% off at five subscriptions to 40% off at 75 or more, with custom agency pricing past 100 sites. You can move a subscription between live and staging sites in MyYoast.

Is Yoast SEO still free?

Yes. WordPress.org lists version 28.6, updated September 29, 2026, and Yoast says the plugin will stay free. It includes SEO and readability analysis, XML sitemaps, schema, and FAQ and How-to blocks that add structured data. Premium sits on top of it rather than replacing it.

Do you need a paid SEO plugin at all?

Most blogs and small business sites don’t. Free versions handle titles, descriptions, sitemaps and basic schema, which is what search engines read. Paid tiers add convenience: redirect managers, rank tracking, local SEO and AI drafting. Pay when one of those saves you real time every month.

Which Yoast alternative works best for WooCommerce stores?

Rank Math PRO, AIOSEO and SEOPress PRO all include WooCommerce SEO in their paid plans. Yoast sells WooCommerce SEO at $178.80 a year, with Premium included. On price alone, SEOPress PRO covers one store for $49 a year. Test each plugin’s product schema before switching.

How do you keep Yoast redirects when switching?

Export them before you change anything. Yoast Premium manages redirects in bulk by CSV, and SEOPress says its importer brings Yoast redirects across. Rank Math’s CSV import is a PRO feature. Afterwards, open a few old URLs and confirm they still return a 301.

The verdict: which Yoast SEO alternative should you pick?

Switch for money or missing tools, not because a vendor’s chart told you to.

  • Pick Rank Math if you want redirects and extra keywords without paying, because its free plugin includes both.
  • Pick SEOPress PRO if you pay Yoast for several sites, because five sites cost $59 a year and unlimited sites $149, with no renewal jump.
  • Pick AIOSEO if you want hand-holding on one site, because its wizard is the closest match to Yoast. Just budget for the $99 renewal.
  • Stay on Yoast if you run one site and use Premium’s support, its bundled plugins or the Google Docs add-on.

For most readers, the best Yoast SEO alternative is Rank Math’s free plugin. Pay for PRO only when rank tracking earns its $107.88 a year.
